The support this teenager has received is phenomenal.
At any given moment, approximately 350 million people around the world suffer from depression, according to the World Health Organization. This is a conundrum, because if people don’t have access to a support system, nourishing food which might naturally improve their depression symptoms or, in some cases, medicine needed to help the individual get by until their outlook changes, something unfortunate may result.
Fortunately, individuals like 18-year-old Amelia Hall are speaking out about their depression and by doing so, are encouraging others to realize that they’re not alone. Additionally, the teen has broadcasted a healthy way she deals with the depression that doesn’t involve cutting, an outlet she might have turned to in the past. Recently, Amelia wrote on Twitter:
“Today has been the worst day in a long time, but I recreated a beautiful painting on my skin instead of self-harming.”
The beautiful scene she painted on her leg was “Café Terrace at Night” by Vincent van Gogh, one of her favorite artists. Bored Panda shares that the masterpiece took about three hours to complete. The archaeology student at the University of Manchester didn’t have the easiest time finishing it. However, she persevered.
“I remember sitting there halfway through wanting to wash it all off and just go back to bed,” she wrote. “But I’m so glad I kept working on it because I have something wonderful to show from a particularly bad day, instead of just self-harm marks. No matter how bad everything may be, it’s not worth physically hurting yourself.”
This 18-Year-Old is honest about her struggle with depression.
And recently, she decided to paint a van Gogh masterpiece rather than cut her leg.
It took about 3 hours to complete the masterpiece.
And, the internet’s response has been largely positive!
