There are hundreds out there who have a soft spot for animals. They’d do anything to help these “helpless” creatures. One such woman thought she was rescuing your everyday stray dog only to discover that she had saved something else.

Andrea Athie lived in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. She had become an overnight sensation after she rescued what she assumed was your everyday run-of-the-mill wounded dog. She had been a good Samaritan that day, but she soon discovered that her rescue was actually a wild coyote.

Andrea first noticed the canine on the roadside. It looked like it had been struggling with a broken leg. When she drove by it, she immediately stopped and brought the wounded animal inside her car. She knew it need medical attention and was planning to bring it to the vet who knew more about dogs than she did.

However, as soon as she arrived at the clinic, she was shocked to discover that the wounded animal hadn’t been a dog. As docile as it had been, it was actually a coyote. The incident immediately became viral when Andrea’s brother, Alejandro, tweeted the photos and said, “Today my sister picked up a COYOTE thinking it was a run-over dog and took it to the vet.”

Andrea was quick to respond to his quip and said, “Why did you burn me like that!? Haha, I love you.” She also gave those concerned additional information and said that the coyote had actually been docile throughout the ride. She actually gave it a name and called him Pancho. She also assured those concerned that the coyote was in good health and was being cared for properly.

Pancho had definitely won Andrea over. In separate tweets, she said that he had received five days of intense treatment. The vets were there to make sure that his hind legs healed properly. She assured the public by saying, “For his sake, he must have the best possible quality of life and isn’t made to suffer. Every effort is being made to recover him. He is a wild animal.”

As the days went by, Andrea gave another update. The recovery actually took longer than expected because Pancho had refused to eat or exercise. Still, she understood that the coyote was out of his comfort zone and was probably depressed. She remains optimistic for his full recovery.
