J. Colin Murrell

Another scientist who also had the privilege to go below the surface was J. Colin Murrell. Another microbiologist hailing from the University of East Anglia, he says of the cave and its confines, “It’s very likely that the bacteria have been there a lot longer than five million years, but that the insects became trapped there around that time.” He goes on, “They could have simply fallen in and became trapped when the limestone cast dropped, sealing the cave until it was discovered again in 1986.”

Fascinating And Strange Species

Due to the inhabitable atmosphere of the cave, it would take several years before scientists could fully discover the wonders of what they would find inside the cave. In fact, they found an extraordinary number of 48 species amongst the creatures living in the cave. And what was even more unbelievable was that 33 of those creatures had only ever been found inside the confines of the Movile Cave.
