Alongside Lascu, another scientist, microbiologist Rich Boden, also went into the cave to discover it’s never-before-seen magic. In 2010, he was approximately the 29th person to have ever been inside the cave. He explains it as, “It’s pretty warm, and very humid so it feels warmer than it is, and of course with a boiler suit and helmet on that doesn’t help.” He adds, “The pool of warm, sulphidic water stinks of rotting eggs or burn rubber when you disturb it as hydrogen sulphide is given off.”

Further Exploring The Darkness

It’s explained that in order to see the remainder of the cave, you must get past the lake and find your way around the extremely narrow tunnels. Within those confined passageways, there are air spaces known as “air bells.” Plus, navigating throughout the tiny pathways can be extremely dangerous since it’s done in complete darkness, with only flashlights, headlights and other battery-powered light sources used for navigation. The chances of losing your way throughout the ‘maze of tunnels’ is highly likely.
