The infamous Alcatraz Island is a prison that sits in the middle of San Francisco Bay. It was used to house many of the world’s worst criminals for almost 30 years until it was shut down due to being too expensive to continue operating. It also proudly claims that not a single inmate was ever able to escape its clutches for almost 3 decades, but these 3 men may just prove otherwise. After digging holes through the wall and devising a plan to trick the prison guards, these 3 men snuck out in the middle of the night, never to be seen again. Alcatraz Island
Alcatraz is an island, which was found by the Spanish adventurer Juan Manuel de Ayala back in 1775. He had named it “La Isla de los Alcatraces,” which translated means ‘The Island of the Pelicans,’ precisely because it was seemingly overrun by that type of bird. The island is approximately 1.25 miles off the San Francisco shore in California, and the water that surrounds it is known to be icy, rough and highly unpredictable.
