A police officer in India just levelled up and took pandemic prevention to a whole new light. Rajesh Babu, an officer from Chennai which is the capital of Indian state Tamil Nadu has gone viral on social media by sporting a helmet designed to look just like the coronavirus.

The country which has a population of about 1.3 billion is currently under a 21-day lockdown in order to delay the CoVid-19 spread. Because of this, the Chennai police officer has stepped forward and took an interesting approach to stop people mid-journey and talk to them about how important it is to stay home during the lockdown.

How did he manage to pull this off? Babu teamed up with a local artist Gowtham who designed and customized the police officer’s helmet with just the use of paper.

Babu spoke to Asian News International saying: “We take all the steps, but still people come out on the streets. Therefore, this corona helmet is one of the steps we are taking to ensure that people are aware of the seriousness of the police. The helmet is an attempt to do something different.”

The police officer added that: “When I wear this, the thought of coronavirus comes into the minds of the commuters. Especially, the children react strongly after seeing this and want to be taken home.”

It makes Babu sad that people in India are not taking the lockdown in a serious matter. “We had been talking to the public. But awareness among them is very less. So we thought of doing something different,” he said.

As of late, there are already 3,588 people infected with Covid-19, and 99 recorded deaths in India.
