Hotels Fail Horribly When Investigators Set Up Traps to See If They Actually Change Sheets During the Pandemic

There is danger lurking in every corner all over the world, and it’s all due to one microscopic and invisible novel coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19. With over 13 million people around the world now infected with the virus and counting, and due to how easily its transmitted, everyone is in a panic.

What makes it even crazier is that despite just how deadly a virus it is, your best defense against this deadly virus – aside from a vaccine or a cure being discovered in the distant future – is to wash your hands constantly, do social distancing, and be sure to sanitize everything before you touch it, and after too of course. These days, basic hygiene can actually save your life and the lives of the people around you.

While you can do everything in your power to keep your home safe and free from viruses, many wonder about public establishments like restaurants, gyms, supermarkets and more over hotels. These types of places in particular need to take extra precautions to ensure that their establishment is 100% clean, disinfected and virus-free! They need to treat their cleanliness like people’s lives depend on it, because in all honestly, they actually do.

Unfortunately, not all hotels are doing their jobs, and how do we know? The crew of popular television show Inside Edition checked into a couple of high-end hotels in none other than New York City in order to find out the shocking truth!

Producers on the show decided to use some washable spray that would allow them to apply invisible logos that are only seen under a UV light. They put them on pillows, bedsheets, and bath towels, items in rooms that should be washed after each and every customer.

In a very disturbing turn of events, the producers went back to the rooms where they left the invisible logos and lo and behold, the logos were still there! While something like this would have caused serious outrage in the days before COVID, these days, it’s unthinkable!

Incredibly, the beds, the sheets, the pillows and the towels weren’t the only surfaces where the show’s producers decided to leave invisible material. They took a washable gel and placed it on areas like thermostats, TVs, desks and other areas expected to be wiped clean by housekeeping to see they would get cleaned up too. The video clip, which has been seen by at least 1.1 million people, proves that these hotels failed miserably when it came to actual wiping up surfaces.

And what’s even more surprising, if not shockingly disturbing, is that many of these hotels are in Manhattan are considered high-end, which means you probably had to pay top dollar for even the most basic of rooms. On a normal day, this would already be unacceptable, considering the amount of money you’re paying for your top-notch room. But during the pandemic, this is completely frightening.

Grievously, when Inside Edition went back to the location of the “crime,” namely the Hyatt Place Times Square where they did their experiment, they would be shocked to find that the bedsheets and pillowcases still had the UV logos on them, which only meant that housekeeping didn’t change the sheets. Although the desk had been cleaned and the towels changed, it was still disturbing to see that the remote control and other items around the room still held heavy

And it wasn’t just the Hyatt Hotel that had a less than desirable outcome for the experiment. Other establishments like Hampton Inn and Trump International Hotel had the same gross results.

Both hotels had evidence of sheets and pillowcases that weren’t changed, as well as thermostats and remote controls not wiped down.

Of course, after the results were revealed about the Trump International Hotel, management was quick to deny the TV shows outcome, saying that they were completely false statements. Sounds familiar? Of course it does! Even one of the viewers thinks the same way!

And there were a number of other responses from individuals that saw the video too. Netizen Shawnee Lee thinks that it’s because hotels don’t get enough time to actually clean the rooms.

Others claimed that hotels just find ways to “sweep things under the rug” no matter how gross they may be.

Another said that you should just do yourself a favor and bring your own sheets!

Even when the pandemic is over, which at this point no one really knows when that will be, if this investigation has taught us anything, it’s that you should just do yourself a favor and request for a room cleaning, and towel and bedsheets change as soon as you arrive in your hotel. And to make sure it actually happens by maybe staying in the room when it happens. Better safe than stuck in an intensive care unit of a Manhattan hospital, right?
