The Coronavirus pandemic has given rise to many heroes, and not just the front liners and health workers. There are many all over the world who do their share to help out, no matter how small the effort is. Economies have to function, and no matter how scary and dangerous the pandemic is, some have to continue to work to make products and services available for those in need. Grocery workers, food delivery people,  electricians, plumbers, you name it, these heroes go out and risk being infected so that they may help out. Just staying home and quarantining yourself is helping the further spread of the virus. But some take it a step further.  A Canadian boy scout, Quinn Callender, decided to respond to the call of help from hospitals to find a way to relieve some of the pain and discomfort hospital workers have to deal with by wearing protective gear all day long, every single day.

Being a boy scout, Quinn naturally would help out anybody who asked for his help. His local hospital had asked for help from the general public, but he took it to mean his help. But what could he do aside from staying at home? Well, this creative boy scout decided to put his skills to use, particularly his 3D printing skills. He created an ear guard for medical workers who have to wear masks all day. It was a simple solution to the problem, the ear guards would prevent the straps of the masks from digging into the back of ears and head from the one wearing the masks all day.

Quinn has printed dozens upon dozens of ear guards for donations, as well as making the file available to the public, so other people all over can replicate what he’s doing. His proud mother, Heather, says, “We need more volunteers to fire up their 3D printers and donate these ear guards to hospitals and medical professionals!”

People on social media found this young man’s actions to be heroic and unselfish. Hopefully others will answer the call like Quinn did, to find ways to help out those who need it. The value of the service of the health workers is definitely recognized as heroic, some of them have lost their lives trying to save other lives. But you don’t have to be a lifesaver to be considered heroic. And not all heroes wear capes.
