“At-Home Abortion Kit” Wire Coat Hangers Placed In Pharmacy Stores Across The US

The professional looking wire coat hangers complete with printed product labels appeared in stores from  far-a-field as New York, Los Angeles, California and Texas including many states that have recently implemented tough abortion limits including Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and Kentucky.
Wrapped with a card stating “Perform and Abortion in the Comfort of your own home” and claiming to be “Approved for use in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio and Utah”  the pharmacy store prank had shoppers scratching their heads over the weekend.
The only clue to the originals of the fake products are two QR codes on the pink and white labels, one directs to a donation webpage for Planned Parenthood and the other to the website of guerrilla street artist Plastic Jesus who has  pulled similar pranks in the past including placing small bullet-proof vests on child mannequins in the ‘back-to-school’ section of large department stores back last summer. In 2017 the British born street artist also placed empty black plastic boxes on shelves in Best Buys stores around the Los Angeles area with “Useless Plastic Box” $99 price tags.
A statement on the artists website claims that a team of over 50 people, representing every state in the US were able to place the hangers in pharmacy departments over the weekend and surreptitiously  take photos of their unsanctioned product placements in order to protest the highly restrictive term limits on abortions now passing in many states.
The statement goes on to read “ In a time when most nations agree that human rights including the right to an abortion these draconian laws are not only an attack on womens’ rights over their own bodies but completely disregard the safety, well being and wishes of women everywhere. We must fight this to avoid ‘back street abortions’ becoming a method of birth control and the significant risk that accompanies the illegal procedures”.
