A Monster-Sized Alligator Is Seen Journeying Through A Florida Golf Course

Narcity

Florida is known as the “Sunshine State” and is popular for its beaches, nightlife, and comfortable weather. However, it is also known to be hurricane-hit, which can surely dampen a vacation. Also, the state is the third most populous with over 21 million people, and a place of geographic diversity where the wildlife often interacts with the inhabitants. Different birds, marine animals, mammals, and reptiles are often seen about. It is not uncommon to see a bottle-nose dolphin, leatherback sea turtles, rattlesnakes,  a crocodile or alligator. But it surely is shocking when a gigantic alligator is spotted strolling around a golf course like it owned the place.

This happened recently at the Valencia Golf and Country Club golf course, in the Florida city of Naples. A video was captured of a massive and frightening reptilian predator casually waddling through a grassy field before taking a dip in the water. The footage definitely went viral, with many comparing the reptile to a monster of the Jurassic era. However, some netizens doubted if the video was real, and that it may have been Photoshopped due to its incredible size.

In reply to the doubters, Matt Devitt, a meteorologist at WINK news, tweeted, HUGE FLORIDA GATOR! Yep, this monster is real.”  Another user commented, That’s no gator. That’s a walking, living dinosaur.”  and still another tweeted, I’ve seen huge gators in Naples but seeing one taking a stroll like that is quite a sight.” One user even used the GIF of the well known scene in Jurassic Park where the young Lex trembles with fear holding a spoon of jiggling green jello.

Florida is a natural habitat for the American alligators, with over one million co-inhabiting the state with humans. They can grow to about 10 feet long, and some even much bigger. They may appear to be slow and clumsy, but don’t make the mistake of underestimating them. They can surprisingly sprint to speeds of 35 mph, faster than any human can run. They normally try their best to stay away from humans, but will aggressively pursue them if they feel threatened.

Never make the mistake of thinking that an alligator is slow and lethargic,” warns the Parks and Wildlife Department. “ alligators are extremely quick and agile and will defend themselves when cornered.”  While the likelihood of a Florida resident being unprovokedly attacked is like one in 2.4 million, it is best to steer clear of these predators. Experts do recommend that you run as fast as you can when you see one approaching.

Yes there are some monsters in this world, and not the ones you find under your bed (hopefully). Some even enjoy the scenery of a golf course…if you are golfing in the same area, be sure to be courteous, and  allow them time to exit before you continue your round. Always keep that golf club handy, just in case.
