What began as this family’s long-awaited trip with friends to the gorgeous city of Praia de Luz, Portugal, could not have ended in a worse possible way. The McCann’s, a British family of 5, had left their home in the UK for sunny Portugal, in the high hopes of enjoying a wonderful week in the sun and sea.
But what happened during that trip became this family’s absolute worst ordeal.
A little blue-eyed beauty
Madeleine McCann was born on May 12, 2003. When her family flew to Portugal for their holiday in 2007, she was only 3 years old. She was also an older sister to twin siblings, all belonging to Gerry and Kate McCann. Both physicians by profession, the married McCann couple flew their family approximately 1,600 miles from the UK to Portugal, hoping to enjoy a vacation of a lifetime with a few close friends from work, as well as a few other common friends.
