14 Major Bottled Water Brands Recalled Over E-Coli Contamination

waterMajor water supplier Niagra Bottling recently announced that one of their springs was contaminated by E-Coli, causing many leading bottled water companies to recall their products.

Niagara announced that the bacteria was found on June 10. The company said that, “As the spring source did not notify us in a timely manner, we have discontinued the use of this source.”

“E. coli are bacteria whose presence indicates that the water may be contaminated with human or animal wastes. Microbes in these wastes can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms.  They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly and people with severely compromised immune systems,” the Niagara statement said.

The following brands have been recalled as a result of the contamination:

  • 7-Eleven
  • Acadia
  • Acme
  • Big Y
  • Best Yet
  • Morning Fresh
  • Niagara
  • Nature’s Place
  • Pricerite
  • Shaw’s
  • Shoprite
  • Superchill
  • Western Beef Blue
  • Wegman’s

Products were reportedly recalled at ACME Markets in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, at Shaw’s grocery stores in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont; and at Wegmans grocery stores, which operate in Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
