If you’re passionate about organic farming, are presently in a relationship, and are seeking to change your life for the better, an opportunity awaits that you don’t want to pass by. Norma Burns, who owns Bluebird Hill Farm in North Carolina, is looking to give away her 12.88-acre organic farm to one lucky couple. It’s estimated to be worth about $450,000 but could be yours for next to nothing. All one needs to do to enter the giveaway is submit a $300 entry fee, fill out the brief entry form, and write a short essay entitled” Why We Want to Own and Operate Bluebird Hill Farm.”

There is presently a huge demand for organic products. According to data shared by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the industry has grown by about 20% annually. Additionally, experts estimate that sales of organic produce and animal products will grow from about 2% to roughly 3.5% by the end of the decade. For these reasons alone, it could be a worthwhile venture.

In an interview with The Charlotte Observer, Burns said that she wants to give two aspiring farmers “a gift of good land” because there’s a struggle finding a proper (and affordable) place to homestead nowadays.

“I’m looking for a like-minded couple who have experience and training in organic farming and are willing and able to put in the long days and hard work that farming requires,” said Burns. “The only thing they don’t have is an actual farm. I want to make it possible for these new farmers to get started.”

According to former Agriculture Deputy Secretary Krysta Hardens, the opportunity could transform two peoples’ lives, as it’s getting harder than ever to acquire suitable land for homesteading. She explained:

“Many producers, especially new and underserved farmers, tell us that access to land is one of the biggest challenges they face in establishing and growing their own farming operation.”

What does Burns intend to do once the giveaway is complete? Well, she’ll move to Raleigh and enjoy the city life, of course.

The nearly 13-acre farm includes a 200-year-old barn, a chicken coop, distiller, and greenhouse.  An entire website has been created for the contest. On it, Burns has outlined the stipulations required to enter. If interested, you can learn more here. Don’t delay, it ends on June 1, 2017. Winners will be announced in July.
