Man Debunks The Saying “You Can’t Teach An Old Dog New Tricks” By Teaching Himself To Knit At 86 For Preemies

There’s a saying that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but Ed Moseley just shattered that belief by starting something new at 86 years old. In fact, this activist would even tell you that you’re never too old to learn or do something new.

Moseley lives in the Dogwood Forest Assisted Living home in Georgia and the residents have asked them to help make knit caps for prematurely born babies. This talented man was more than happy to help out.

“I’ve never knitted in my life. Corporate said it’s a nice project for keeping the old people out of trouble,” Moseley told Inside Edition.

Despite his ongoing battle with cancer, Moseley was able to teach himself a new trick in just four days – knitting. When he began, it would take him up to four hours just to complete the task of knitting one baby’s cap. But later on in 2016, he could complete one cap in about 90 minutes while watching a tv show or chatting with a fellow resident at the same time.

After a few weeks of discovering his new talents, Moseley was able to make 55 caps for premature babies, and not long after that, the other residents decided to join and and help make more. Together, these senior citizens knitted over 300 caps for the newborns.

The caps were delivered to Northwise Hospital, right on time for the celebration of National Preemie Awareness Day. Patricia Blunt, a mother of a premature baby in the unit said: “It’s very nice that so many people care about the babies in the NICU. Being up here is so disruptive to your every day and knowing that people care enough to help parents is so appreciated.”

Moseley hopes to knit and send 30 caps, at the very least to the hospital every month while he is at the retirement home.
