It is literally impossible to be in the presence of goats and not smile. The rambunctious, spastic, and adorable bleating critters are hilarious to watch and are even cuter to play with – or, in some cases, do yoga with.

In Albany, Oregon, a new type of class has taken the yoga community by storm. For the last few years, Lainey Morse has been hosting goat yoga which, yes, incorporates goats into the therapeutic and stress-relieving practice.

The phenomena gained national attention, which resulted in people flying from all over the United States to experience the radical new class for themselves. In fact, the waiting list to try out Goat Yoga has grown to over 1,200 yogis who are infatuated with the idea of doing downward dog with a goat on their back (seriously).

The curious idea was inspired when Lainey was hosting a children’s birthday on her farm and a local yoga instructor pitched a seemingly strange idea: use her flock of goats to host relaxing and fun classes alongside the lovable creatures.

“The woman said, ‘You should really have a yoga class out here,” Morse told the press. “I said okay, but the goats have to join in.”

Because all eight of the farmer’s goats are well-behaved, the venture proved to be a success. The video below elaborates on this and more.

“It’s more than just a yoga class,” says Lainey. “It may even sound silly but it’s helping people in extraordinary ways and it’s making people SMILE! It’s really about disconnecting with day to day stress, sickness or depression and focusing on positive and happy vibes.”

Morse also shared how the goat therapy has benefited her personally. A year and a half ago, she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and found comfort when spending time with the delightful mammals.

“I would come home every day and spend time with my goats, and it was so therapeutic for me,” she says. “It’s hard to be sad and depressed when there’s baby goats jumping on you.”
