Most people dream about living to be 80 or 90 years old. Incredibly, centenarian Emma Morano surpassed those monumental birthdays decades ago. Yesterday, the Vercelli, Italy, resident celebrated her 117th birthday!

In addition to being the world’s oldest person, Morano is the last person on Earth who was born in the 1800’s. Undoubtedly, she is a treasure for those who gifted the opportunity to talk and learn from her.

The birthday girl has lived a long and rich life. When she was born in 1899, Britain was at war with the Boers in South Africa. And by the time she was fifteen years old, WWI was still fifteen years away. At twenty-eight- years old, the television was invented.

In case you’re wondering what her secret to longevity is, she told AFP News Agency:

“I eat two eggs a day, and that’s it. And cookies. But I do not eat much because I have no teeth.”

That said, it also would seem as if Emma is blessed to have really good genes. Emma has definitely earned her cookies and cake this year. Following are some photos of the world’s oldest person and her family. Happy Birthday!
