This newlywed was preparing for death when she made this one change to her diet.
Eliminating sugar from one’s diet has been credited with everything, from weight loss to clearer skin, but did you also know that people with more serious illnesses – such as cystic fibrosis and cancer – can also benefit from eliminating refined sugars?
For the many who have been told by their doctors that food plays no role in disease development, the theory might sound insane but a 28-year-old woman from Australia is living proof that what you eat does matter.
Diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at birth, Jessica Bean has spent most of her life struggling with a debilitating lung condition. In order to replace the calories she spent exerting herself to breathe, she consumed on average 4,000 calories a day, mainly in the form of sweets.
The Aussie native told The Daily Mail:
“I’ve always had to have a high-calorie diet because of my condition as I burned more calories fighting to breathe every day. Generally, I ate around 4,000 calories a day, twice the amount a normal woman would eat, and relied on sugary chocolate bars and lollies to give me an easy calorie boost.”
In addition to a potent sugary diet, Bean survived on a concoction of 40 pills which she took every day to try and improve her condition.

While she was subsisting, Bean’s health declined at age 21 to the point that she was left hospitalized and fighting for her life. Sure that she would die an early death, she married her high school sweetheart and prepared to live just one more year.
Thankfully, the husband of the wedding photographer is a health coach. He made a recommendation that she try omitting refined sugars from her diet. Instead of sugar, Bean began consuming healthy fats in the form of healthy omega-3 fish, avocado, coconut, and nut butters.
The results were dramatic: Jessica’s lungs healed so quickly and her visits to the ER became less and less frequent until one day, they stopped altogether. Recently, the 28-year-old celebrated an entire year without a trip to the hospital.
“Eating healthily has been so instrumental to my survival, I’m now a health and wellness coach. The change in my lifestyle has been incredible. I’ve gone from thinking my husband will marry and bury me in a matter of months, to enjoying my life and planning my future.”
Because few people have been taught that what they consume either creates or destroys their health, Bean has made it a life’s mission to educate and inspire individuals as a health coach. As a cystic fibrosis survivor, she informs clients about how removing sugar from their diets can improve their quality of health, and inspires the world through her Instagram page.
