Sight is a gift many people take for granted. To appreciate the lines of a loved one’s face, the clear hues of a blazing sunset, or the crisp shades of autumn are all blessings perceived through sight. While many in our world are unable to witness such things, at least four-month-old Leopold Wilbur Reppond from Seattle will now be able to.
Bored Panda reports that the young babe suffers from oculocutaneous albinism, a condition that severely impairs his sight. Until he was gifted the glasses in the video (above), he had never seen his family clearly. He just ‘saw’ with his hands: knowing his father by the feel of his beard, feeling his mother’s face or tender figure.
Now, with special infant glasses from Miraflex, little Leo has the ability to see.
In the heartbreaking video, his mother puts the glasses on her baby’s face. After a few moments, he realizes something has changed. It’s when he looks at his mother for the first time that he offers a huge smile. Is there anything more precious?
Technology has come a long way in recent years and continues to develop at an exponential rate. It’s heartening when it can be used for such a positive purpose as helping a young boy see.
