Want To Fix Political Corruption In Your Community? Here’s How You Can

A new initiative in the US bypasses congress to work directly for the people- now's a great time to get involved.

If you live in the States and were beginning to despair that nothing would ever change in American politics, there could be some light at the end of the tunnel.

Represent Us is a cross-partisan movement to bring anti-corruption laws to cities around the country, with the eventual aim of filling congress full of real politicians (ie, ordinary people) who truly represent their constituents. It’s going to take time and patience to get to that stage, but founder Josh Silver has a three-year plan.

If you are tired and angry about politicians not listening to you, their campaigns funded by secret donations from big business, their ties to the banking system, and other forms of corruption at every level, you can make a change.

Josh Silver is a veteran election and media reform executive. He was the campaign manager for the successful 1998 Arizona Clean Elections ballot initiative campaign and is the co-founder and former CEO of Free Press, a leading media and technology reform advocacy organization. Silver wants to start a “domino effect” by passing anti-corruption laws in key cities and states. This has already been done in Florida, where an act was passed by a 2:1 margin. Silver did this by “going around the broken system, directly to the people…Despite what you think, we can fix it,” he says.

Within weeks of the Florida decision, over 2000 people said they want to do the same in their city or state. “If we pass enough of these laws we can take the campaign all the way to Washington,” Silver says on this campaign video.

Over 80% of republicans, democrats and everyone in between support anti-corruption laws. That’s because wherever you sit personally on the political fence, these laws work for you. Each act that passes in a town, city or state does 3 major things to stop corruption:

  • Stops Political Bribery by prohibiting politicians from receiving contributions from interests that they regulate.
  • Ends Secret Money by requiring full transparency of all political money.
  • Empowers Voters with a small tax rebate for political contributions. Make politicians beholden to constituents, not special interests.

If this sounds like a good idea, it’s crucial to get involved now! The more people in your community who sign on in support, the more likely the group is able to help you pass the act. Please consider sharing the video and for more information on how Represent Us works, click here.
