Due to the implementation of technology, the world now moves at an exponentially faster pace than it did mere decades ago. So much has changed since the 1970’s, for instance. The world understands the AIDs illness better, nearly everyone carries around a handheld device that doubles as a computer, and communication can commence at the touch of a button if one chooses.
For all that has changed, there is still a lot that hasn’t, however, and that is the enduring nature of the human spirit. Photographs captured by an unknown photographer are an example of this. The collection, which was shared on Flickr, offers a trippy flashback of what life was like for people in the early 1970’s in London, UK. The individual who uploaded them, Glen F, suspects they were taken by an American tourist.
“I’ve found that Americans tend to take pics of ‘mundane’ things that us Brits would take for granted and never photograph, like the sandwiches! So you often end up with some unusual subjects showing regular everyday life,” wrote Glen.
Thanks to Flickr users, Glen has been able to identify some of the locations in the photographs. From the gates of Buckingham Palace to aerial views of London back in the day, the collection takes one back in time and offers a unique perspective of what life was like in the early 1970’s.
Perhaps we will never know who the photographer is — or whether or not he/she is present in any of the photos. The mysterious nature of the images makes them entrancing, however, as does the flashback in time.
