As was recently mentioned in a True Activist article, political tension is only likely to escalate after the U.S. presidential election takes place. Both candidates have been blind sighted by numerous scandals, and it’s no secret that the majority of the American populace opposes – rather than supports – Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton as Presidential material. What’s worse is the fact that some citizens are willing – and quite vocal – about their intention to ‘get rid’ of the other candidate if they are elected into office.
As you may remember, Donald Trump told his audience during a rally that second amendment supporters could do something about Clinton if she gets into office – insinuating an assassination, some believe. Of course, Clinton supporters, too, have promised violence against Donald Trump if he becomes the next U.S. President. Prominent Black Lives Matter activist Tef Poe, who testified before the UN about US police violence, said “Dear white people if Trump wins young niggas [sic] such as myself are fully hell bent on inciting riots everywhere we go. Just so you know.” Additionally, a disturbing video compilation shows Clinton supporters assaulting and attacking Trump during one of his rallies.
A large portion of the 9% of Americans who are in support of either primary presidential nominee are prone to violence, it seems. This disturbing reality was affirmed once again when, last Thursday, a Trump supporter told a Wall Street Journal reporter that he plans to assassinate Hillary Clinton if she takes office.
The Trump fan, 50-year-old Dan Bowman, told the journalist:
“If she gets into government, I’ll do everything in my power to take her out of power. If I have to be a patriot, I will.”
When he was asked what he meant by that statement, Bowman smiled and replied with “Take it any way you want to take it.”
“That sounds like a threat,” the reporter said.
“What do you think a patriot is?” Bowman replied.
“Is that a physical threat?”
“Is it? I won’t have to myself. There’s gonna be a movement that we will go and take them out of power,” the Trump supporter said.
“Sounds like you’re saying that it would be acceptable to assassinate a President.”
“If she’s corrupt, why should she be able to stay in office? Answer that question.”

Though the Trump campaign has distanced itself from supporters spouting aggression, it cannot be denied that Donald Trump himself is responsible for inspiring an attitude of aggression in those who believe he’s fit to lead the U.S. In addition to proclaiming that the election is “rigged”, Trump has said multiple times that “crooked Hillary Clinton” belongs in jail. It seems a number of his supporters view such claims as a call-to-action, which could have dangerous – if not deadly – implications.
