Donald Trump supports how the former dictator of Iraq dealt with suspected terrorists.
If there was any question whether or not Donald Trump is an authoritarian, a leader with disregard for any law they deem to be inconvenient, there isn’t anymore. On Tuesday, the Republican presidential nominee praised Saddam Hussein, the former dictator of Iraq, for his controversial approach to terrorists.
During a rally in North Carolina, he asked: “Saddam Hussein was a bad guy, right?”
The crowd nodded in agreement. But then, he continued:
“He was a bad guy, really bad guy. But you know what he did well? He killed terrorists. He did that so good. They didn’t read them rights. They didn’t talk. They were terrorists. It was over.”
This isn’t the first time Trump has said he wishes the United States could kill terrorists and the families of those terrorists. In fact, the egomaniac often argues that the Middle East would have been better off if the U.S. never invaded Iraq in 2003 and ousted Hussein, though he did say in 2002 that he supported the war.
Unsurprisingly, his thoughts on Hussein’s dictatorship resulted in a small media firestorm.
It might be agreed that if the U.S. population succumbs to fear-mongering propaganda, the nation is likely to descend into a land on par with Medieval China, where it was acceptable for individuals who threatened the empire to be slaughtered. Retaliating out of fear and biased conditioning will not ‘make America great again’. In fact, it is likely to only divide the diverse population even more.
Finally, concerning Trump’s shocking declaration, IfYouOnlyNews makes a valid observation:
“. . and then there’s this: the people the Ba’athist Party considered “terrorists” were the people who attacked the Ba’athist regime. Do keep in mind: this is the regime that gave us Uday Hussein. The same one that committed an act of mass murder against the Kurds.
Donald Trump is celebrating the Ba’athist ability to defend Uday Hussein and others like him. He is celebrating a brutal dictatorship’s ability to be a brutal dictatorship.”
