The group carved “NO MORE TIGERS. NO MORE WOODS," in six-foot-tall letters.
Because Donald Trump believes climate change is a “hoax” invented by the Chinese, because his administration seeks to dissolve the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by the end of 2018, and because the new President gave the ‘green light’ to both the Dakota Access and Keystone pipelines, outraged individuals decided the best way to express their frustration would be to vandalize one of his golf courses located in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
The anonymous individuals carved out the words “NO MORE TIGERS. NO MORE WOODS,” in six-foot-tall letters to declare to President “Trump and his corrupt administration that their actions will be met with action,” according to EcoWatch.
In a statement shared with The Washington Post, the group explained that the act was a protest against the U.S. President’s political actions which they feel are anti-environmental. The statement reads:
“In response to the president’s recent decision to gut our existing protection policies, direct action was conceived and executed on the green of his California golf course in the form of a simple message: NO MORE TIGERS. NO MORE WOODS.”
One of the members commented,
“Tearing up the golf course felt justified in many ways. Repurposing what was once a beautiful stretch of land into a playground for the privileged is an environmental crime in its own right.”
Those who partook trespassed onto the course by scaling a fence then “walking down a steep hill” that was covered in cacti. Though the event might be applauded by some, many are referring to the incident as “an elaborate act of vandalism.” Surely, there are more intelligent methods of enacting change than fighting fire with fire.
Presently, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident with the intention to prosecute those behind the act.
