This Model Is Challenging Fashion Stereotypes By Refusing To Pluck Her Unibrow

The model is unapologetic about her unibrow and refuses to pluck it to make others more comfortable.

Oftentimes, when a model works in the fashion industry, they are expected to be a “blank slate” and alter their look upon a client’s request. Though Greek Cypriot student and model Sophia Hadjipanteli is willing to don different items of clothing and pose in unique ways, one thing she is not willing to do is pluck her very bushy, very dark unibrow.

To some, this may come as a surprise. But to Hadjipanteli, it’s just common sense. This is because the naturally blonde model, who sometimes dyes the unibrow to make a statement, believes in freedom of expression and loves her look. To pluck it would be to conform to societal standards, and she personally supports the #UnibrowMovement.

The blonde beauty is aware not everyone finds her look appealing, and openly accepts that. In an interview with Harper Bazaar, she said: “I personally think my face looks better this way. Others disagree, and that’s totally cool.” She’s not the only one. Hadjipanteli has 60,000 fans on Instagram, and that number is quickly growing.

“I have a unibrow because it is a preference,” she recently wrote on Instagram. “I’m who I am because I want to be this way. When you judge others for wearing makeup, dying their hair, altering parts of their body or inner self, JUST BECAUSE YOU DON’T, makes you just as toxic as a lot of societal norms and pressures we are constantly faced with. AT THE END OF THE DAY just do you cuz imma be doing me whether you like it or not.”

Bored Panda reports that after being inundated with requests to pose as Frida Kahlo, the famous Mexican painter who was known for her striking unibrow, Hadjipanteli happily agreed. This is because she admires the iconic artist, as so many do.

“I have always loved her and thought she was so beautiful,” said Hadjipanteli. “After doing that, I feel like I have labeled myself as someone who is embracing being myself and isn’t necessarily being natural, but instead just doing what I want.”
