It’s no hoax: Everything sold at The Herbivorous Butcher is made from plants, yet customers are still lining up to get more.
According to Huff Post, the ingenious business opened in January and is already wildly successful with customers who choose to eschew meat. Whether they’re drawn to experiment with Meatless Mondays or are die-hard vegetarians, apparently all are pleased with the meat-less meats and cheese-less cheese options.
The business specializes in selling “small-batch, locally sourced, all-natural meat alternatives,” according to its website. And, the inventive menu (which is GMO-free) doesn’t disappoint.
Owned by siblings Kale and Aubrey Walch, the shop is the first of its kind in the United States.
In the future, the ambitious owners want to offer meat-free deli favorites, such as turkey, pastrami, ham, and bologna. In addition, they help to serve more fanciful imitations like BBQ and Korean ribs, breakfast sausages, beer brats, corned beef, and Porterhouse steaks.
For now, customers can line up and receive a variety of ‘cheeses’ – made from coconut oil and soy milk – and meatless favorites, such as the Huli Huli Hawaiian Ribs (below).
The business started off as a farmers’ market stand, but eventually grew to an online outpost. Now, with the help of an incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign, the Herbivorous Butcher is open six days a week as a brick and mortar shop.
Minnesota residents can enjoy all the guilt and cruelty-free grub they can handle at the innovative dining establishment. And what’s not to love? Even Jon Stewart is a fan!
Perhaps this inventive business idea will inspire more “vegan butcher shops” elsewhere in the United States. Who knows!
