“This day in age, it’s rare to see a long-lasting love like theirs,” wrote the photographer. “But I believe it should be celebrated, documented, cherished, remembered and something to strive for.”
Five years ago, photographer Megan Vaughan was hired to take 60th wedding anniversary photos for couple Harold and Ruby. Because she did such a great job, she was once again asked to capture their love in photographs.
The only difference is that over the past five years, Ruby’s dementia has worsened. As a result, Ruby didn’t remember Vaughan or their previous photoshoot. Wrote Vaughan, “When she greeted me at the door, she wrapped me up in a tight hug… just like you would hug family you hadn’t seen in a long time. I told her I was so excited to see her and she said, ‘Well, I wish I knew why!’ But wow, her personality was just as sassy as ever!”
Vaughan considers it an “honor” to document the couple’s love of 65 years. On Bored Panda, the photographer wrote: “Harold is the exact same as I remember him. Cutting jokes and always smiling.”
While Ruby isn’t likely to remember the experience, she will be able to look at the photos and be reminded of a happier time when she was with her love, Harold.
“This day in age, it’s rare to see a long-lasting love like theirs,” wrote Vaughan. “But I believe it should be celebrated, documented, cherished, remembered and something to strive for.”
