Just in case aliens decide to make contact in the future (which statistically has a more-than-likely probablity of happening), citizens of planet Earth now have a flag – albeit an unofficial one –  to represent them.

Oskar Pernefeldt, a graduate-to-be from Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm, Sweden, took it upon himself to create a flag for planet Earth for a recent project.

And as you can see, the artist didn’t stop just at the design stage. Oskar created a series of scenes depicting the flag in use.

From other-world adventures to sporting games on Earth, the creative student developed a variety of scenarios in which the flag might be used.

The flag’s minimalist seven-ring design was emblazoned on a deep-sea-blue background. Simple – yet beautiful – a sacred geometrical pattern was formed to produce a flower in the middle.

According to Pernefelt, “The blue field represents water which is essential for life – also as the oceans cover most of our planet’s surface. The flower’s outer rings form a circle which could be seen as a symbol of Earth as a planet and the blue surface could represent the Universe.”

In the video below you can see how Pernefeldt constructed the as-yet-still-unofficial flag for Planet Earth.
