When Black History Month comes around each year, there are those that are excited to share new information about people of color that typically get overlooked and those that hate the month because they argue that there should be a white (or some other race) history month.

Cristi Smith-Jones and her 5-year-old daughter, Lola, fall into the former category and could not wait to complete a special project they developed. The two decided to look through photographs of inspiring black women and recreate the photos with Lola as the model in order to adorably call attention to some awesome figures in history.

Featuring both women in the past and contemporaries that are changing what it means to be a black woman in America, this project had it all and one photo was posted every day in February. Scroll through the photos below to see some of the best (and cutest!) recreations.
