These Were Donald Trump’s First Actions As President

By: Leigh Cuen / ATTN  On his first day as President, Donald Trump started signing laws and decrees, beginning with a bill allowing his pick to head the Defense Department, James Mattis, to take the job despite a rule requiring the Pentagon chief to be out of military uniform for at least seven years.

Mattis, known for his tough stance on Iran and tendency for bombastic opinions about violence towards enemies, is now expected to be approved by the Senate with bipartisan support this Friday afternoon.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer also announced that President Trump signed a proclamation calling for a National Day of Patriotism. Although the details of this proclamation have yet to be released, many Twitter users are already criticizing the move as something more akin to fascist propaganda than democratic celebration.

Before giving his writing hand a rest, President Trump also signed documents making his cabinet nominees official. For the first time in nearly 30 years, the president’s team does not include any Latinos.
