What could possibly be cuter than a hoard of baby bats swaddled in soft blankets with tiny, little bat bottles in their mouths? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Well, maybe the fact that these bats were rescued and are being cared for at a veterinary clinic in Australia. The Australian Bat Clinic & Wildlife Trauma Center in eastern Australia’s Gold Coast hinterland takes in baby bats (called ‘pups’) when their mothers have died, and also treats adult bats that are afflicted by mites and other bat diseases.
The adorable baby blankets they are wrapped in aren’t just for looks, however. If the baby bats have been orphaned, they lack the warm embrace of their mothers’ wings and the blankets serve as the next best thing.
If you’re still under the impression that bats are scary and evil, we’re quite certain that these images and video (at the bottom) will change your mind – if not completely transform your day.
And The Australian Bat Clinic & Wildlife Trauma Center isn’t the only establishment that cares for forlorn pups, the Tolga Bat hospital in north-eastern Australia is caring for displaced baby bats as well. Together, they are helping to save and preserve nearly 100 different species of bats which are native to Australia.
