Because society places so much emphasis on physical appearance, the movie and music industries go to extreme lengths to make actresses and artists appear flawless. Underneath the layers of makeup and before hours of photoshop editing, however, the individuals idolized by the masses often times look quite ordinary.
Women and men alike need to be reminded of this fact, for filters through social media platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat enable anyone to portray only the “good” photos of themselves. This, in turn, creates unrealistic expectations.
Cellulite, a little bit of extra weight, dry skin, and more — they’re effects of being human and modern living that need to be embraced, not shunned.
Hopefully, after realizing “celebrities” such as Adele and Emma Watson look quite ordinary without makeup, more people will realize they, too, are attractive both inside and out.
