Taipei City, which is the capital of Taiwan, is all set to host the Universiade Games this summer and they’ve got the subway cars to prove it. The games, which will officially begin next month, have inspired the host city to transform the interior of their subway cars to mimic sports venues that will be used in the games.
The designs are actually shockingly realistic, with some photos posted by riders confused for the real deal, and are meant to rev up the excitement ahead of the games. Mass Rapid Transit mostly focused their designs on the floor but some side panels also feature seats for where the audience for the games will be sitting. Included are venues for swimming, track and field events, soccer, basketball, baseball, and throwing events.
The games are held every two years in a different city and are split into winter and summer sports. The event is second only to the Olympics, as the official website states, and the summer games feature 14 compulsory sports as well as 3 additional sports chosen by the host country.
Taipei City is excited to host the games this year after submitting bids to host for five years in a row before being chosen. Like the Olympics, these games are considered a “megaproject” in which massive amounts of money, time, people, and additional resources have been funneled into the event. Over 70 venues were newly constructed in the city for the games, which have all proposed alternate uses for the future. Check out the photos below to see the cool designs on the subway cars.
