John Darwin found himself in a horrible situation. His money was gone, he was going to lose his properties, and he was up to his ears in debt. He decided to do something drastic, which was to fake his death. Along with his wife, he planned out exactly how he was going to do it so that she could cash in his life insurance policy and hope that one day, he could reappear to begin his life all over again.
But things wouldn’t end up the way they had hoped. In fact, his life would turn out completely opposite.

John Darwin, who was originally from Hartlepool, County Durham in England, was born on August 14, 1950. He married Ann Stephenson in 1973 and had two children with her, both boys. He was a teacher for 18 years then eventually changed professions to become a prison guard. But John never wanted to live a simple life. He wanted something much more grand.
