If you or someone you know was diagnosed with cancer, you’d likely do everything in your power to fight the affliction – even if it was illegal.
Because medical marijuana is still restricted in many nations around the world, some parents have chosen to do just that.
When Rumor Rose, a 2-year-old of Queensland, Australia, was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma last year, her dad, Adam Koessler, took a risk and decided to supplement her chemotherapy treatments with cannabis oil.
Koessler turned to the controversial remedy last January after reading about how well it helped other people. Instantly, he noticed remarkable results that improved her condition considerably.
But because he took the risk and supplied his daughter with the cannabis oil, he was – and still is – facing jail time. In fact, his next court hearing is January 29, 2016; Adam is at risk of having to serve up to twenty years in prison.
After the hospital caring for his daughter contacted authorities, Koessler was arrested for possessing ‘dangerous drugs’ and for supplying them to a minor.
Shortly after being arrested, he was released on bail. However, the terms of his release prevented him from seeing his daughter, and they have since removed any involvement from his daughter’s treatment.
Doing so is a detriment to the two-year-old, as the supplementation of cannabis oil was reportedly improving her condition.
Said her father:
“The results were amazing, what we saw when Rumer was given the medical cannabis oil what nothing short of miraculous. Her cancer ridden little body was alive again — Rumer had almost instant quality of life…Her skin color came back, her eyes were sparkling again…We were certain after seeing these results that her recovery was entirely possible.”
The devoted father continues to do his best to help his daughter heal from afar. He has reportedly been sending her organic meals so to boost her immune system so her body may fight the cancer. Unfortunately, when the ordeal was just beginning, the hospital was rejecting the outside food.
If you feel this entire situation is unjust and Koessler deserves to be a part of his daughter’s life, there is a petition you can sign to encourage the government to drop the charges. At present, over 202,870 activists have added their name.
“He is a father doing whatever possible to save his child… let him go,” wrote one supporter.
Says another, “If the law states that this man cannot give his terminally ill… daughter something that improves her quality of life, than the law needs to be changed. The fact that this man has had his parental rights taken away by an ignorant legal system that has absolutely no right to do so absolutely disgusts me.”
Many times over the past year, Adam has attempted to see his daughter in the hospital. Some have been successful, others not.
On a positive note, Rumer’s cancer is now confined to just her rumor, and is less advanced than first reported, says her mother, Sacha Maujean.
By continuing to wage the war on drugs, the government and law enforcement are, in their arrogance, rejecting the possibility of a natural cure for cancer being explored. In effect, patients like Rumer Rose who might benefit from the controversial treatment are suffering.
“Nothing illustrates the insanity, immorality, and sheer evil of the drug war quite like punishing a parent for trying to save their child’s life and forcing a toddler to suffer,” states John Vibes of The Free Thought Project.
