What’s Next For The BLM Movement in 2021?

The World Economic Forum

As the circumstances regarding the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor emerged in 2020, non-violent protests ramped up, in support of the BLM movement. In response, violent white supremacist protests began across the nation, making the stark divide ever-more noticeable.  For the white supremacist protests,  police frequently arrived wearing normal gear, but for the BLM protests, police showed up in full riot gear.

This difference isn’t new; the wealth of America was built on slavery. The founding of BLM movement was in response to the murder of Trayvon Martin and emphasizes the need to create policy changes for addressing racial injustice.

Societal change starts with an increased understanding of the causes of racial injustice, white privilege, and what can be done to combat this injustice. Due to the strength of the BLM movement, there is still the opportunity to change the course of the future for minorities all across the country, allowing for greater equality.

The future of the BLM movement means that more education is needed for the general population. It is suggested that continuing education is the best option to help combat racial injustice and racism. If the younger generations aren’t taught the mistakes made and how they negatively impacted society, they cannot be expected to make better decisions than their predecessors.

With a solid education regarding civil rights, racism, and racial injustice, it’s entirely possible that future generations of policymakers can improve inequality. The BLM movement can help with that because it can continue to spread awareness of these issues. Those involved can orchestrate events that can potentially lead to increased understanding, which may also lead to improved relations among the different races, lessening the racial divide.
