Kyle Parsons is showing how profit, purpose, and passion can be merged to create sustainable change.
To merge your passion with social change must be one of the most fulfilling experiences in life. Kyle Parsons would know, for up until 2004, he was just an average surfer dude. But since then, he’s made a massive impact in Indonesia and is showing the world the power of inspired social entrepreneurialism.
Before 2004, Kyle lived a very chill – and exciting – life, traveling the world in search of the next big wave when he wasn’t busy at his day job. But one trip to Bali changed all of that… In Indonesia, Kyle’s became aware of the struggles many Indonesian people face, including horrendous pollution and drastic unemployment.
Inspired to “be the change” and positively participate in these peoples’ lives, Kyle absorbed the lessons gifted on that trip, and soon after quit his day job. It then became his mission to found the purpose-driven company known as Indosole.
This innovative company repurposes the mounds of old tires prevalent in Indonesia and transforms them into beautiful sandals through a production process that is organic, toxin-free, and environmentally sustainable. That’s not all – the process provides dignified work to many in Indonesia, easing the burden caused by unemployment. Some of the brilliant work produced by this company is shown in the pictures.
According to Indosole’s website, the sole inspiration (pun intended) behind their work is to “be part of the solution.”
The sandals, shoes, clothes, and accessories all created by the company create a process of ‘re-imagination, repurposing, and re-birth.’
Kyle’s vision is to play a big part in inspiring others to re-imagine how they view ‘waste’, and to also get creative in giving it a new purpose. By staying true to this calling, he has helped thousands reimagine the life they thought they would lead.
This social business is a great example of profit, purpose, and passion merging together to create change in a sustainable way. While maintaining its profit margins, Indosole is still able to maintain its mission and be a positive example for change.
