Stray Kittens Born Without Eyelids Have Their Sight Saved – And Couldn’t Be Happier!

At first glance, the cats in the photos below seem to be almost smiling. Knowing their histories, chipper attitudes wouldn’t be surprising. The felines didn’t always have such happy lives, however.

The cats, named Dora and Felix, are siblings that were found wandering on the roadside in New South Wales, Australia, when they were younger. According to The Dodo, they were fortunate to be rescued by a loving couple that transported them to the RSPCA’s Blue Mountain shelter.

Once veterinarians inspected the two, they confirmed that the unique felines had been born without eyelids. Without treatment, they’d both be blind within a year. Fortunately, they received a revolutionary surgery that involved taking skin from their mouths to create new eyelids.

Patrick Jones of RSPCA NSW wrote on his blog:

“Without corrective surgery, the kittens were likely to go blind within a year. Thanks to the amazing vets from the Eye Clinic for Animals (in Sydney), the surgery that Felix and Dora so desperately needed was made possible.”

As the photos below relay, the cats look incredibly happy. However, even though their sight has been saved, they’re still in need of loving, furrever homes. If you can offer Dora and Felix a home, consider adopting them together by visiting this link.

“Their foster carer would love to see the pair adopted together, but they would also thrive on their own,” Jones wrote.

Following are some heartwarming photos of the siblings:
