Ever wonder why sometimes, people in the office or at school seem to catch a bad stomach one after the other with no apparent reason? This is because stomach flu, or viral gastroenteritis, is very contagious and can spread quickly from person to person. People who are infected with a virus that causes stomach flu become infectious to others during two phases of the disease: once they begin feeling sick, and a few days after recovering.

Stomach flu infections are transferred in several different ways: direct mouth contact or contact with contaminated surfaces, food, drinking liquids, and body excrement such as vomit and stool.
