While interviewing Woody Harrelson, the comedian announced that he's adopting a cruelty-free diet for a minimum of 17 days.
By now, most people are aware that actor and activist Woody Harrelson is vegan. So, it just makes sense that while filming a segment on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert with Harrelson, the comedian announced that he, too, is ready to adopt an all-plant-based diet — if only for a time.
Veg News reports that Colbert began by informing Harrelson that he lost a bet and would now follow a vegan diet for 17 days. He then asked the actor, “How do I get my protein?” To that, Harrelson responded that people don’t need as much protein as they think. Colbert joked that he would consume Pop Tarts — which Harrelson delicately explained have dairy, making them anything but vegan.
Once the segment aired, cruelty-free companies reached out to the comedian and offered to supply him with plant-based meats, cheese and ice cream. Reportedly, The Herbivorous Butcher delivered a package with Korean ribs, ribeye steak, burgers, Garlic Pepper Havarti, smoked gouda and pepper jack cheese — all meat and dairy-free — to the comedian’s home last Thursday. NadaMoo, as well sent an assortment of non-dairy ice cream to Colbert.
The discussion takes place halfway through the interview:
Stephen Colbert isn’t the first television host to give up eggs, meat, dairy and other ingredients that are sourced from animals. Fellow comedian Jon Stewart — a long-time advocate of animals — is rumoured to be vegan. In fact, after retiring, Stewart and his wife, Tracey, transformed their 12-acre Middletown, NJ, home into the fourth location of the animal rescue organisation Farm Sanctuary.
