28. Difficulty Swallowing (Thyroid Mass)

Enlargement of the thyroid due to a growing mass causes difficulty in swallowing. The location of the mass on the base of the neck impedes the proper contraction and relaxation of the muscles of the throat that are responsible for swallowing. Because of this, patients may experience some difficulty when eating and drinking, causing some discomfort while doing so.
