19. Coarse, Brittle Hair (Hypothyroidism)
The growth and regeneration of hair follicles are also regulated by thyroid hormone. Low levels of thyroid hormone in hypothyroidism decrease the rate by which hair cells are replaced by newer and healthier ones, leaving the older and coarser hair to remain. These then become brittle, resulting in hair fall and later on, hair loss.
