While there might be enough food on this planet to feed all civilians, distribution and greed have made it so 795 million people still go to bed hungry each night.

Animal agriculture plays a large role in this travesty. Reportedly, enough food is grown worldwide to feed 10 billion people. However, 50% of the world’s grain is fed to cows intended for slaughter. To make matters worse, 82% of starving children live in countries where food is fed to animals, and the animals are eaten by western countries.

Finally, it is estimated that 1/3 of the food produced worldwide ends up in the trash, where it is sent to rot in landfills. Obviously, humans can – and should – do better. It begins with what – and how much – one chooses to put on their plate. But until the majority decide to “be the change,” little will improve, forcing individuals to steal rations to provide for their families.

One such story follows, but it, at least, has a happy ending.

In Malaysia, a 31-year-old man was spotted trying to exit a Tesco with about seven dollars worth of fruit and drinks. The store’s manager, Radzuan Ma’asan, decided to approach the man and ask why he was shoplifting. Upon being questioned, the unnamed man immediately confessed – surprising the manager.

As it turns out, the father of three had to quit his job to take care of his wife and children after she slipped into a coma during childbirth. A visit to a relative’s house where the family was staying confirmed his story.

Ma’asan told The Star that the top priority was to ensure that the seven-year-old got enrolled in school. As a result, he did something quite amazing.

He refused to press charges and even offered the father a job at the store. In addition, he threw in some extra cash to help with the expenses and to send the family’s oldest child to school.

“The man’s situation really touched our hearts,” said Ma’asan, who is now looking for the right tasks to assign to his new employee.

Not everything that happens in this world is good, but good can be a result of a difficult situation. Do you agree? Please comment below and share this article!
