Selfie Taken By Gymnasts From North Korea And South Korea Goes Viral

Anyone who has studied world history knows that relations are anything but friendly between North Korea and South Korea. Luckily, decades of feuding between the two populations hasn’t resulted in athletes from the two countries becoming enemies.

In fact, judging by a selfie taken by Lee Eun-Ju, who is from South Korea, with her competitor, Hong Un Jong (from North Korea) the two are almost amicable – if not friends already.

Photographers who were at the scene when 17-year-old Eun-Ju whipped out her cell phone can confirm that the two were laughing as they captured the heartwarming moment.

While Eun-Ju is a relative newcomer to the Games, Hong Un Jong is already an Olympic champion. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, she won gold in the women’s vault competition.

For obvious reasons, the selfie of the two gymnasts has gone viral. A few additional photos which were captured by nearby photographers follow:
