A firefighter went above and beyond the call of duty when, after rescuing a 51-year-old and his singed dog, he gave CPR to the injured pooch.

Mashable reports that firefighter Costache Mugurel is all over the news for saving a dog that collapsed from smoke inhalation shortly after being rescued from a fire. Almost immediately, Mugurel rushed to the animal and gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and chest compressions to the pup until an oxygen mask was made available.

The incredible scene was captured by local journalist Costi Tudor, who posted the video to Facebook. The post’s caption read:

“Nobody gets left behind.”

Like most heroes who barely had time to think before they acted, Mugurel doesn’t think he did anything special. After all, part of his job description is to save lives. To him, that includes animals in need.

Tot respectul meu! Mare om!

After receiving assistance from the firefighter, the dog was transported to a nearby veterinary hospital. According to reports, the canine is in stable condition.
