32-year-old Zak Williams, the son of late comedian Robin Williams, recently spoke to CNN about a charity effort that he has taken on himself, which involves teaching complex financial concepts to prison inmates.
The William’s family has always had a great deal of sympathy for people who have found themselves on the wrong side of the law, and since the death of his father Zak has wanted to reach out and make a change for people who have found themselves in this position.
So now, every week, Zak visits San Quentin prison in California on a weekly basis to teach the inmates about banking, the stock market and other important financial concepts that can help them rebuild their lives in a positive way.
Zak recently told CNN that “Whether inmates are in for non-violent or violent crimes, a grossly disproportionate amount of the crimes are money related. What we want to do is reveal a whole slew of ways to think about money, and hopefully reveal to people that they can earn it in ways that they didn’t previously see,” Zak said.
“Giving back, and trying to add value to people’s lives is something that’s been very helpful for me personally,” he added.
Zak also said that he was inspired by his father in many ways, who also made great efforts to show compassion and love for people who fell upon hard times.
“He was very compassionate towards those who might not have been dealt a great hand in life. His capacity for compassion and love was limitless … it was something that brought him great joy, providing happiness and laughter for untold millions and millions of people,” Zak explained.
