Avoid that Just Shine Shimmer powder sold by Justice, girls. According to a recent report by a North Carolina local news station, the brand’s highlighter (which is marketed to preteens) tested positive for asbestos. As many know, the dangerous material has been found to cause cancer and mesothelioma.

Usually, fear over coming into contact with asbestos takes place when moving into an older house or a building. As Mashable reports, before the material’s impact on health was recognized, asbestos was a popular ingredient for insulation. Now that it’s avoided at all costs, the Just Shine Shimmer powder should be, as well.

Sean Fitzgerald, who tested the makeup in Greensboro, North Carolina, told the station, WVTD: “Fibers like this get into your breathing zone, and when you inhale, these fibers can get into the lung and go to the very bottom of the lung and that is exactly where you have the greatest likelihood of asbestos to cause disease.”

The WVTD expert believes the talc in the makeup was contaminated with asbestos, which is why the brand tested positive. Usually, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tests makeup products for exactly this sort of thing. Asbestos can stay in the body for years and adversely affect one’s health, which is why this finding should be taken very seriously.
