After slicing open an avocado and adding the flesh to a dish, most people launch the pit into the garbage can. Irish artisan Jan Campbell does the exact opposite.

After preparing an avocado for a meal one day, she was struck by the beauty of the pit inside. After contemplating ways to use it (other than growing an avocado tree from it), she decided to carve into its deeply pigmented surface to reveal magical forest creatures.

Since that fateful turn of events, she has created dozens of tiny, intricately detailed figurines from avocado pits inspired by Celtic folklore. As Bored Panda reports, the sculptures range from the peaceful faces of forest spirits to the depictions of wild mushrooms and more.

The end result can be displayed as a statue, worn as a pendant or provide the holder with a newfound sense of companionship. Hopefully, Campbell’s activism inspires more people to waste less and create more with ordinary objects that can be found around the home and outdoors.

You can buy your own tiny sculpture by visiting Jan’s website, Instagram, and Etsy page.
