A beautiful pair of twin girls was recently born in Illinois during a time of great conflict and division within the U.S. As citizens heatedly debate over controversial issues, such as women’s rights, racial division, and whether or not climate change is a hoax, photos of the bi-racial twins have stunned some into silence.
According to the BBC, interracial couples have a 1 in 500 chance of having children born with different complexions. It’s a rarity but it’s what caused newborn Kalani to look like her mom, Whitney, and newborn Jarani to take after her father, Dean. The internet went into a frenzy after Whitney posted a photo of the sweet girls on Facebook with the caption:
“We’re chromosome twins. “Kalani (on left) is light with blue eyes and Jarani (on right) is the darker one with brown eyes. This is rare but so awesome to share!”
It’s curious how in 2017, something as simple as skin color can still divide populations. Hopefully, the celebration of these unique girls will inspire more people to look beyond superficial appearances and accept others, no matter their complexion.
