If one relies on television to keep them company – or to learn about current events, they, more than likely, will find themselves a bit more lonely in addition to being depressed. That’s exactly what resulted in an elderly couple in Rome crying and shouting at each other.
Neighbors thought 84-year-old Jole and her 94-year-old husband, Michele, were being attacked, prompting them to call the police. But when the local law enforcement showed up, they instead learned that the couple – who has been married for 70 years – were crying because they are disheartened by the world. According to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, the pair wasn’t in any physical peril, but they were suffering from “an incurable loneliness.”
Apparently, the duo rarely receive visitors because their neighbors moved away, so they just rely on the TV to learn more about the outside world. Between police brutality, politics in the U.S. (Trump or Hillary? *shudder*), war in the Middle East, poverty, and political issues in the UK, the state of the world can be a lot to deal with.
Fortunately, the policemen stayed around to improve the couple’s night. The Huffington Post relays that the four police officers put together a delicious meal of spaghetti, butter and Parmesan cheese. Then, they spent the rest of the evening chatting and socializing with Jole and Michele.
