The Girl Who Followed Her Father

Irena’s father was a doctor who instilled in her the virtue of saving people’s lives. She became a nurse and showed her penchant for caring for people in need when she worked as a social worker for Warsaw Social Welfare Development, distributing food and clothing to families in distress.

A Precarious Time

Irena lived most of her life in a precarious time. She grew up during the First World War and lived through the Second World War. The ravages and sufferings both great wars brought gave her the sense of commitment not just to survive, but also to help others do the same.
